Early sales numbers suggest holidays are off to a sluggish start

The Commerce Department reported that retail sales for November rose slightly — up 0.2 percent — vs. economists' predictions of a 0.5 percent increase. Speculation has it that November figures are off somewhat because Thanksgiving fell on a late date this year,  pushing Cyber Monday (Dec. 1st) sales into December.
