Easter 2025: Which Restaurants Are Open and Which Are Closed?

April 15, 2025

Easter 2025 is nearly upon us, but not everyone will be celebrating, so there may be a need to go out to dinner at a restaurant of choice. And even those who will be celebrating the holiday on April 20 may prefer to go out for an Easter meal with family rather than stay home and cook. But which restaurants will be open, and which will be closed? Let’s take a look.

Easter 2025: Restaurants Open for Those Not Celebrating (or Cooking)

Cozymeal has provided a list of 35 restaurants with nationwide locations that are going to be open for Easter 2025 for those of us who don’t want to make brunch (or for those of us who don’t celebrate the holiday at all).

However, some restaurants may have adjusted hours, and a few chains may be closed altogether. For example, Arby’s and Firehouse Subs will be closed on Easter Sunday, as will In-N-Out Burger and Chipotle.

Restaurants that are open for Easter 2025 include:

  • Domino’s
  • Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse
  • The Cheesecake Factory
  • Applebee’s
  • Maggiano’s Little Italy
  • Wendy’s
  • P.F. Chang’s
  • Chili’s
  • Romano’s Macaroni Grill
  • Ruby Tuesday
  • Sonic
  • Dunkin’
  • Denny’s
  • McDonald’s
  • Olive Garden
  • Jimmy John’s
  • KFC
  • Bob Evans
  • Panera
  • Buffalo Wild Wings
  • Waffle House
  • Red Robin
  • Taco Bell
  • Five Guys
  • Benihana
  • Outback Steakhouse
  • Fogo de Chão
  • Dairy Queen
  • Honey Baked Ham
  • Texas Roadhouse
  • California Pizza Kitchen
  • IHOP
  • Red Lobster
  • Cracker Barrel
  • Burger King

If you aren’t planning on cooking this Easter 2025, you may have more options than you realize. Plenty of popular restaurants are open on Easter across the country, ranging from drive-thru fast food to casual sit-down cafes and even pricey steakhouse dinners.

Though it may appear that nothing is open on that last-minute trip through town, a little digging will reveal that there is something for everyone.

As always, check with your nearest location to see if there are any changes to the hours.

Easter Retail Blackout

Easter 2025 is a time for celebrating with family. However, while some restaurants will be open nationwide, other retailers will be participating in the nationwide Easter shopping blackout.

Sam’s Club will close more than 600 locations throughout the country to join in the Easter shopping blackout, joining longstanding competitor Costco. ALDI, Publix, Best Buy, Macy’s, T.J. Maxx, and Marshalls will also close on April 20.

Target will also participate, closing roughly 2,000 outlets for 24 hours to allow staff to spend the day with their families.

The full list of stores that are expected to be closed for Easter include:

  • Target
  • Costco
  • ALDI
  • Sam’s Club
  • Publix
  • JCPenney
  • Kohl’s
  • Macy’s
  • H-E-B
  • Michaels
  • Lowe’s
  • Best Buy
  • Marshalls
  • T.J.Maxx

However, some other retailers are scheduled to open on Easter Sunday, including:

  • CVS
  • Dollar General
  • Whole Foods
  • Home Depot
  • Kroger
  • Trader Joe’s
  • Walgreens
  • Walmart
  • Dollar Tree

It is unknown whether these stores will have regular business hours or if they will be disrupted by the Easter break. Check with your local shop for further information.

According to Scott Y. Stuart, CEO of Turnaround Management Association, the choice to participate in an Easter retail blackout is mostly driven by economic concerns.

“While that changes during different cycles, this one being a post pandemic cycle where the convalescence of a host of factors, including online market place, work from home affecting urban center traffic, commercial real estate costs, and normal pressures effacing consumer spending, and changes in consumer habits, are all at play right now,” he said to The US Sun.

Easter is just one of the many holidays for which retailers have to decide whether to stay open or close.

In recent years, many shops, including Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Kohl’s, Macy’s, and Dick’s Sporting Goods, have closed on Thanksgiving, for example, partially to limit crowds during the season and partly to express gratitude to staff. Target announced in 2021 that its stores would permanently close on Thanksgiving.
