Not everyone was happy when Family Dollar closed a 5,000 square-foot store and opened a new 8,000 square-foot unit last year in an area near Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. So far, however, the larger store has proven to be a success for both the retailer and the area it serves.
