FDA lays out multiyear plan to cut heavy metals in baby food

The Food and Drug Administration, which has set maximum allowable levels of heavy metals in such products as bottle water, is now looking at a multiyear plan to issuing similar guidance for baby foods. “Although action levels are not binding, we have seen that, over the years, our guidance on action levels and other actions have contributed to significant reductions of toxic elements in food,” an FDA spokesperson wrote in a statement.
