Federal report says FDA fails to provide 'efficient and effective food-recall process'

A report from the inspector general of the Department of Health and Human Services is critical of the Food and Drug Administration's process for identifying and managing the recalls of tainted foods in a timely manner. The agency's review estimated that food suppliers took an average of 57 days to recall items, once the FDA learned of potentially unsafe products.
