Ferrari All-Electric Model Maintains Its Signature Emotional Roar, Says CEO
June 25, 2024
Ferrari’s CEO, Benedetto Vigna, has revealed that its all-electric model will possess all the driving and emotional characteristics of a signature Ferrari.
During the opening of the luxury car firm’s new E-Building in Maranello, Italy, Vigna said, “The final judge will be the client. More people have started to drive our electric Ferrari, and they have a good feeling. The driving traits are there.”
According to Vigna, the hallmark of a Ferrari lies in its emotional impact. After personally test-driving the all-electric Ferrari, he emphasized, “I had this kind of emotion.”
Renowned for its powerful combustion engines, the luxury automaker is setting out on a bold yet costly venture with its mission to introduce an electric model. Scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2025, details about this electric Prancing Horse remain limited. However, the prospect of an electric Ferrari has sparked discussions within the automotive industry and among affluent car enthusiasts.
The focal point of the debate revolves around the distinctive engine sounds. Ferrari’s renowned powertrains are cherished for their tuneful roars, rumbles, high-pitched whines, and pops. In contrast, electric motors operate mostly in silence.
According to Vigna, the Ferrari’s power sounds will forever be “authentic,” indicating that the company will not attempt to simulate the sound of a combustion engine using artificial audio programs. Instead, he suggested that to create the natural sound characteristics of an electric motor, they may apply some enhancements.
Vigna emphasized that despite common belief, the electric engine does not operate in complete silence. “There is a way to let it play in a unique way,” he explained, adding that while engine sound is a crucial aspect of the emotional driving experience of a high-performing sports car, it is just one element among many.
“You interact with eyes, with ears, with your full body,” he noted. “When you’re talking about the Ferrari experience, the driving traits in a car, you’re talking about having a unique emotion when you’re in the car. Because it’s about linear acceleration, lateral acceleration, braking experience, gearbox change. So there are many dimensions, not just the sound.”
Other automakers have also ventured into enhancing the auditory experience of their electric vehicles. Both Hyundai and Dodge have showcased EV models featuring simulated engine noises as an option.
