First Watch Brings in a New ‘Double Decker Taco’ as Taco Bell Reportedly Ushers It Off Its Menu

October 29, 2024

First Watch, a breakfast, lunch, and brunch restaurant that is slowly opening locations nationwide, has joined the Double Decker taco craze first launched by Taco Bell by unveiling its own take on the popular treat.

In a press release announcement, First Watch revealed that it has launched its limited-time seasonal menu, which includes the Double Crunch Breakfast Tacos. A crispy corn tortilla shell containing scrambled cage-free eggs, hardwood smoked bacon, and hand-pulled carnitas is encased in a wheat-corn tortilla stuffed with refried black beans, cheddar, and Monterey Jack in each of the two double-layered tacos. The tacos are then topped with fresh avocado, cilantro, homemade pico de gallo, and lime crema and accompanied by a cup of fresh fruit that has been seasoned with Tajin.

“Our new seasonal menu is inspired by the festive flavors of the holidays — and marks the seasonal return of everyone’s favorite Cinnamon Chip Pancakes,” said Shane Schaibly, senior vice president of culinary strategy at First Watch, in a statement accompanying the press release. “From comforting classics with a modern twist to vibrant, seasonal dishes, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. My personal favorite of this menu is the Double Crunch Breakfast Tacos. We’ve reimagined this cult classic with a breakfast twist, featuring crispy bacon and hard-shell tortillas for an extra crunch and a flavorful combination of all your favorite taco toppings.”

First Watch In, Taco Bell Out?

News of the First Watch take on the Double Decker taco comes hot on the heels of the rumors surrounding the alleged removal of the Taco Bell Double Decker taco from the nationwide menu, which was only supposed to be on the menu for a limited time.

Taco Bell urged its patrons to “be like the double decker taco. here for a good time, but not a long time” in an Instagram post published on Friday, Oct. 11. The massive fast-food chain has previously informed its patrons that the reintroduced menu item will only be available for a short period of time.

According to TODAY, it will only last on the menu until Oct. 30.

Additionally, as reported by FOX 13 Seattle, Taco Bell responded to customer demand by providing a limited run of the Double Decker last December as well.
