Fisher-Price Initiates Recall for Over 2M Snuga Infant Swings

Leading children’s product company Fisher-Price has initiated a recall for more than 2 million infant Snuga Swings.

The product recall comes after the United States Consumer Product and Safety Commission found there were five deaths linked to the product, which could cause suffocation. Between 2012 and 2022, there have been reports of five deaths involving infants 1 to 3 months of age when the product was used for sleep. In most of those incidents, the infants were unrestrained, and bedding materials were added to the product. 

All models of Fisher-Price Snuga Swings are involved in the recall. Approximately 2.1 million swings were sold in the United States, around 99,000 swings were sold in Canada, and about 500 swings were sold in Mexico. 

The USCPSC website states, “The swing should never be used for sleep and bedding materials should never be added to it. If the product is used for sleep or bedding material is added, the headrest and body support insert on the seat pad can increase the risk of suffocation.”

Parents are urged to never allow their children to sleep in these types of products. They should also never be left unsupervised. Infants should always be placed on their backs to sleep, on a flat surface such as a crib or bassinet with no coverings to decrease the risk of suffocation.
