Ford Recalls Almost 113K F-150 Pickup Trucks Due to Rear Axle Issue

The global automobile manufacturer, Ford, is recalling nearly 113,000 of its highly sought-after F-150 pickup trucks (in particular those from 2021 to 2023) due to concerns about a rear axle hub bolt that may cause the vehicle to break down and lead to an accident.
The recall follows a warning from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlighting that the issue could lead to a heightened crash risk. According to the NHTSA, if the bolt breaks, it could result in axle hub spline damage that could lead to “vehicle roll away when the vehicle is in park without the parking brake applied, or cause a loss of drive power.”
The recall impacts F-150 vehicles from 2021 to 2023 that are equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package and particular hard-wearing axle specifications, according to the NHTSA.
Ford has not heard of any accidents or injuries yet from this problem, and the company is working on a solution to fix it.
Speaking to Fox Business, a Ford Spokesperson said, “We will be sharing more information about the final service remedy with dealers and customers soon. In the meantime, customers can apply the electronic parking brake out of an abundance of caution. If a customer experiences the issue, they should visit a dealership for replacement of both axle shaft assemblies.”
Although Ford is still working on solving this problem, the company is advising owners of the trucks to take their F-150s to a dealer if they identify any signs of the axle bolts breaking. The kind of signs to look out for include clicking or rattling noises. The company has also said that owners will receive notification letters mailed to them by Jan. 29.
According to CNN, this isn’t the first time Ford has recalled an F-150 vehicle with an issue. Last year, the company recalled over 870,000 of its full-sized F-150 trucks as the electronic parking brake could engage unexpectedly at any point, as well as when the vehicle is in motion, which could lead to a loss of control and potential accident.
