Ford Recalls Over 450,000 Vehicles Due to an Issue With Drive Power
April 17, 2024
In a notice published on Tuesday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Ford is recalling over 450,000 compact SUVs and pickup trucks in the U.S. due to a power issue that could impact the battery.
The recall impacts certain models, including the 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles. The NHTSA said the body and powertrain control modules of these vehicles may not detect changes in the battery’s state of charge. This issue can lead to the loss of electrical accessories like hazard lights or even end in a loss of drive power, increasing the chances of potential accidents.
In a statement to CNN, Ford said, “We are committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of our customers. Safety is a top priority, and we are taking proactive measures to address this issue promptly and effectively.”
According to the NHTSA notice, dealers will recalibrate the body control module and powertrain control module for owners at no charge. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be sent on May 13, 2024. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 for more information, mentioning recall number 24S24.
For additional details, owners can also reach out to the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov.
Recently, Federal auto regulators also announced a probe into a Ford recall of around 43,000 vehicles following an error with cracked fuel injectors. The regulators claim that this issue can lead to gas leaks and potentially cause engine fires.
The NHTSA recently issued a summary report disclosing an investigation into a recall impacting 2022-2023 Bronco Sport and 2022 Escape vehicles.
As part of the solution, the federal regulator noted that vehicles impacted would receive a complimentary engine control software update to detect pressure drops in the fuel injection system. When such drops occur, the software will deactivate the high-pressure fuel pump, reduce engine power, and cool temperatures in the engine compartment. Owners will also be notified with a “seek service” message, as outlined in official documents.
