Foreign-born workers make up more of the U.S. workforce

Workers born outside the U.S. now make up 18.1 percent of the national labor total, the highest level since 1996, according to the Labor Department. The combination of slow population growth in the U.S. and the retirements of Baby Boomers has created labor shortages and employment opportunities among native and foreign-born workers.
