Geek Squad’s work with FBI may have violated 4th Amendment rights

March 8, 2018

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has made documents available that the watchdog organization obtained by way of the Freedom of Information Act revealing evidence that some Best Buy Geek Squad employees worked in secret as paid informants of the FBI, allegedly handing over incriminating evidence found on customers’ hard drives. While news of the relationship between the FBI and Best Buy’s employees has been public for some time, newly released information implies that the dealings were more involved and, according to the EFF, suggest that the FBI may have violated the suspects’ Fourth Amendment rights.
