Google Announces More Layoffs and Roles Moving Overseas

Google has made significant changes to its workforce, laying off employees and shifting some jobs overseas as part of a large-scale restructuring. The tech giant plans to create “growth hubs” in India, Mexico, and Ireland, aiming to streamline operations and align resources with its major priorities.

The layoffs primarily affect teams within Google’s finance department, including treasury, business services, and revenue cash operations units. While the exact number of employees impacted remains unspecified, the changes represent a continuation of Google’s efforts to optimize its operations and reduce bureaucracy.

A company spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider that some staffers would be affected by the cuts but declined to provide specific numbers. Additionally, a small number of roles will be relocated to other U.S.-based offices as well as overseas locations.

“As we’ve said, we’re responsibly investing in our company’s biggest priorities and the significant opportunities ahead. To best position us for these opportunities, throughout the second half of 2023 and into 2024, a number of our teams made changes to become more efficient and work better, remove layers and align their resources to their biggest product priorities.”
