Honda Unveils Futuristic Electric Concept Cars & New Logo

January 10, 2024

Honda Motor showcased two unique concept cars, the Space-Hub and Saloon, at the CES tech conference on Tuesday. These models offer a glimpse into the future of Honda’s electric vehicles (EVs), with the first offerings expected to hit North American roads in 2026.

Honda’s upcoming “Honda 0 Series” will be inspired by these concept models. The automobile manufacturer’s new series focuses on three fundamental principles: thin, light, and wise. These principles aim to elevate the joy and freedom of mobility to an unprecedented level, setting the foundation for a revolution in the auto industry. The first model of the Honda 0 Series will be based on the Saloon concept. After launching in North America, Honda plans to introduce these models in Japan, Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and South America.

The Saloon concept car is sleek with a futuristic aesthetic, reminiscent of a sci-fi movie. It boasts an oversized and redesigned “H” logo embedded in a neon-lit front end, creating a bold first impression. The rear complements the front with a red-lit rectangle with the word “Honda” in the center. The Saloon’s interior sports a minimalist digital cockpit and a yoke steering wheel — a feature common to other concept cars showcased at CES. Entry into the car is through a majestic falcon wing door that opens upward from the vehicle’s roof.

In comparison, Space-Hub has the character of a minivan with lounge-like seating and a spacious back area. Like its counterpart, the Space-Hub also incorporates a digital cockpit. Both concept cars suggest a future of autonomous driving. Their steering yokes can retract into the dashboard, hinting at features that will redefine the driving experience. The 0 Series will include an advanced driver-assistance system building upon technologies first rolled out in Japan. This will be followed by an automated driving system aimed at extending hands-off functionality on various road types.

Honda’s upcoming system focuses on “human-centric” safety and will incorporate advanced AI, sensing, recognition, and driver monitoring technologies. This will lead to highly accurate risk predictions and an autonomous driving experience that users can trust. The automotive company didn’t disclose exact specifications or performance expectations for the concept vehicles. However, it did share a glimpse into the 0 Series’ charging capabilities. The new models, launching in the late 2020s, will offer fast charging, allowing the battery to boost from 15% to 80% in just 10 to 15 minutes.
