House passes bill to head off rail strike

The House of Representatives voted 290 to 137 to force freight carriers and railroad unions to agree to a new labor contract. The House also approved a separate bill that would enforce the same agreement between the parties and add a guarantee of seven paid sick days for workers. The bills now head to the Senate.
