How Instacart is compelling supermarkets to evolve

At a number of Costco and Whole Foods stores — not to mention regional groceries such as Mollie Stone’s, Andronico’s and Bi-Rite in San Francisco — you will find check-out lanes dedicated to taking care of Instacart workers who are in the stores every day picking and packing customer orders. Instacart says the company is working to build a “bypass checkout” feature into its app, not just for its pickers, but for customers as well.
