Hundreds of Apple Vision Pro Pre-Orders Landed on eBay With Premium Price Tags

January 23, 2024

As Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset pre-orders went on sale over the weekend, it has been tricky to measure if everyone who purchased a set did so through the right channel.

According to TechRadar, the well-anticipated headset is estimated to have sold around 180,000 units, and even though Apple hasn’t officially confirmed this, there are signs that the product was sold out. However, the popular auction site eBay seems to have hundreds of Vision Pro headsets on its site with a steeper price tag attached to them.

A big portion of the eBay auction deals look to be pre-order placeholders, as Apple’s launch day for the product is Feb. 2, the same day the pre-orders are supposed to arrive.

Listings on eBay vary, with some featuring marketing images of the Vision Pro, while others provide proof of an existing pre-order by the seller. Resale prices for the product span a wide range, from under $600 to over $7,000. The base 256GB model is currently listed at $3,499.99, with a note that the Vision Pro is not available for shipping outside the U.S.

Even though it is expected that prices would be bumped up on eBay, it’s hard to comprehend that those who have been eagerly awaiting this release would pay twice as much to get their hands on the headset. However, offers have been made on the auction site for $1,000. It’s highly unlikely that a seller would want to take a loss from the product, which originally cost $3,500. The low prices are just there to drive interest in bids.

Since Apple’s 2015 Watch launch, The Vision Pro headset is the next launch in the new product category. The leading tech giant is making efforts with this premium and powerful computer equipped with M2 and R1 chips, paving the way for Apple’s takeover into a completely fresh Spatial Computing category.

According to TechRadar, this new launch has the scope to change entertainment, communication, gaming, and productivity. It also has a good chance of not doing well since consumers still don’t fully understand why they should spend so much money on something they can only use by putting it on their heads.
