IKEA Grows Its US Footprint With 8 New-Format Store Openings
February 25, 2025
IKEA plans to launch eight new locations across the U.S. in 2025.
The furniture retailer announced that it will introduce specially formatted stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Oregon, and Arizona. These openings will accompany three new locations in California set to debut this spring and summer. More details on each location will be shared throughout the year.
Among the new additions, seven of these eight locations will feature “plan & order points with pick-up,” a concept designed to further enhance shopping convenience. These smaller stores differ from traditional, large-format IKEA locations, providing customers with a more personalized shopping experience.
At these locations, shoppers can meet with team members to plan and order home furnishings. Purchases can then be picked up at a designated pickup point at a time that suits them.
IKEA Continues To Prioritize Customers and Affordability
Beyond its expansion, IKEA remains focused on affordability and meeting customer needs, even amid economic challenges.
“Our strategy continues to prioritize our customer’s needs, and in FY24, we continued to make everyday living more accessible, especially during a time when we know economic challenges are leading to a decrease in disposable income for many Americans,” said Javier Quiñones, the company’s chief executive officer and chief sustainability officer. “As we gear up for the 40th anniversary of IKEA U.S. in 2025, we’re committed to reaching even more customers where they are.”
As part of its efforts to improve accessibility, IKEA launched a Spanish-language website in July 2024 to better serve Spanish-speaking customers. The company has also enhanced its e-commerce experience, resulting in a 5.6% increase in remote sales compared to the previous year.
Additionally, the company now offers Afterpay as a payment option, allowing customers to spread out their purchases over time. The retailer has also reintroduced its benchmark lower prices, a move that has led to an increase in the number of items purchased per customer.
With these initiatives, IKEA continues to expand its reach beyond its dedicated customer base. At the same time, the retailer plans to stay true to its mission of making quality home furnishings accessible and affordable for all.
