Here’s Everything We Know About Krispy Kreme & Dr Pepper’s Doughnut Collaboration

Krispy Kreme and Dr Pepper have joined forces for the first time to create a doughnut collaboration just in time for football season. The collaboration, which officially launched on Aug. 23, is available for a limited time in the doughnut chain’s shops across the country. Let’s take a look at what we know about this unique collaboration.

Krispy Kreme & Dr Pepper’s Doughnut Collaboration

According to an official press release, football fans and doughnut lovers alike can enjoy the Krispy Kreme x Dr Pepper Kickoff Collection, which includes a reintroduced seasonal favorite from Krispy Kreme and an all-new doughnut that delivers the refreshing experience of the iconic 23 original flavors of Dr Pepper.

“Two of America’s most loved flavors are about to become one amazing gameday sensation to make this the sweetest kickoff to football season ever. This Dr Pepper collection is a must-add to your gameday lineup, whoever you’re cheering for,” said Dave Skena, global chief brand officer for Krispy Kreme, in a statement included in the press release.

The new doughnuts available include:

  • Dr Pepper Kickoff Doughnut: An Original Glazed doughnut filled with Dr Pepper-flavored frosting, garnished with a burgundy sprinkle mix, and topped with a white chocolate Dr Pepper emblem.
  • Buttercreme Goals Doughnut: An Original Glazed doughnut covered in green icing, sprinkled with colorful decorations, and finished with a yellow buttercreme-flavored goalpost.
  • KREME-Filled Football Doughnut: An unglazed doughnut filled with white KREME, coated in rich chocolate icing, and decorated to resemble a football.

The Kickoff Collection is available for purchase in-store, pickup at select locations, or delivery through the Krispy Kreme website and app. Additionally, guests can savor the doughnuts in a Krispy Kreme bespoke half-dozen box, which is freshly delivered to a few merchants every day.

McDonald’s Expansion

This is just the latest offering from the doughnut giant. Earlier this month, the company announced that it was expanding its presence in McDonald’s locations nationwide.

Verdict Food Service reported that Krispy Kreme is preparing to launch its doughnuts in McDonald’s outlets across the country, which will represent a significant growth in its business. Fall of 2024 will see the launch begin in Chicago, Illinois.

About 85% of McDonald’s outlets in the United States will have Krispy Kreme doughnuts by the end of the year, with an additional 5,000 by 2025 and 6,000 by 2026.

According to Krispy Kreme CEO Josh Charlesworth, the company is constantly modernizing its doughnut production processes. A committed staff is working with clients like McDonald’s to ensure a smooth rollout. The company is focusing on hiring and training manufacturing specialists, updating its production lines, and continuously enhancing its manufacturing procedures.

The doughnut chain is also improving its fleet and routing in order to enhance the efficiency of its production centers and increase its distribution capabilities.

In the company’s second-quarter 2024 earnings call, Charlesworth said, “We have a dedicated cross-functional team there to make sure the facilities and our people are ready. In fact, we’re also making improvements to the production lines and even doing our best to improve productivity and up our game as we go.”

He continued, “We’re very focused on delivering a really high-quality service to the McDonald’s restaurants so that people get awesome fresh doughnuts every day at the same quality level they expect in Krispy Kreme and other channels.”

The initial announcement of Krispy Kreme and McDonald’s collaboration came in March 2024.

Fresh doughnuts are set to be provided daily at McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, with a gradual rollout beginning in late 2024 and expected to be accessible nationwide by the end of 2026. 160 McDonald’s restaurants took part in a trial run of this expanded collaboration in the Kentucky regions of Lexington and Louisville. These same restaurants will continue to serve Krispy Kreme doughnuts during the nationwide rollout.
