Krispy Kreme Teams Up With Pop-Tarts for ‘Crazy Good’ New Doughnut Collection
January 6, 2025
Krispy Kreme has made a name for itself by delivering delicious pastries —most commonly, doughnuts — to sugar-craving brand fans.
Now, Krispy Kreme is teaming up with another brand known for its tasty confections in order to launch three brand-new doughnuts nationwide.
Krispy Kreme and Pop-Tarts Launch 3 Brand New Doughnuts (For a Limited Time)
According to Food & Wine, Krispy Kreme will be joined by Pop-Tarts in the launch of three new doughnuts: the Frosted Strawberry Doughnut, the Frosted Chocolatey Fudge Doughnut, and the Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon Doughnut.
“Krispy Kreme and Pop-Tarts are coming together for the very first time — you know the result will be Crazy Good,” Dave Skena, chief growth officer at Krispy Kreme, told Food & Wine. “Krispy Kreme and Pop-Tarts fans will love kicking off the year with this delicious collaboration!”
Per USA Today, while the naming convention behind the doughnuts seems fairly conservative, the taste profiles are anything but.
- Pop-Tarts Frosted Strawberry Doughnut: According to USA Today, this doughnut features an unglazed shell filled with scrumptious strawberry filling, just like the popular breakfast treat. A double dose of shortbread is on the way, as the doughnut is dipped in shortbread icing and then topped with small bits of shortbread. The shortbread is also joined by sugar sprinkles, strawberry drizzle, and Frosted Strawberry Pop-Tarts Bites on top.
- Pop-Tarts Frosted Chocolatey Fudge Doughnut: An Original Glazed Doughnut is dipped in chocolate icing and then slathered in brownie batter buttercream frosting. If that’s not enough to satisfy, Frosted Chocolatey Fudge Pop-Tarts Bites and white nonpareils — small sugar balls — are added to top things off.
- Pop-Tarts Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon Doughnut: Take a cinnamon sugar doughnut and cover it with brown sugar cinnamon cream cheese frosting for velvety richness. Cap the entire affair off with a Frosted Cinnamon Roll Pop-Tarts Bites piece and you have the last of the new trio.
Pop-Tarts Collab With Krispy Kreme Comes After Viral Moment
While Krispy Kreme is no stranger to partnering up with other properties — in the food space or otherwise — this latest team-up with Pop-Tarts comes after a big year for the latter brand.
According to Allrecipes, Pop-Tarts went viral after a massive discussion about adding butter to the popular snack occurred on social media.
As for Krispy Kreme, the company celebrated the 65th anniversary of Barbie with a special doughnut collection last September and created a “Ghostbusters”-themed offering for the spookiest season, Halloween.
This latest dual effort may just reignite a sense of nostalgia for millennials and Gen Xers, generations for which the Pop-Tart achieved a nigh-iconic status.
“Pop-Tarts aren’t just for the toaster — they can infuse culinary creativity to delight consumers,” Jessica Waller, the general manager of Kellanova Away From Home, which oversees Pop-Tarts, told Food & Wine.
“Krispy Kreme has done an incredible job bringing this opportunity to life, combining their iconic doughnuts with the beloved flavors of Pop-Tarts to create a truly one-of-a-kind experience for fans of both brands. We’re proud of this partnership to bring Crazy Good to doughnuts and doughnut lovers in unexpected ways,” she added.
