Krispy Kreme Serves Up Sweet Relief for Tax Day

April 15, 2025

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is trying to relieve the stress of tax day by offering a sweet deal to its customers.

A press release states that customers who purchase a dozen doughnuts at a regular price on Tuesday, April 15, will receive a second dozen original glazed doughnuts for the cost of the sales tax in their state. Plus, this offer isn’t only for in-store purchases. Those who add the promo code TAXBREAK to online orders of a dozen doughnuts will receive a second dozen for free.

Dave Skena, Krispy Kreme’s chief growth officer, explained the reason for Krispy Kreme’s latest promotion: “We know how stressful tax season can be, so we’re making the last day to file your taxes a little sweeter with this great offer.”

The price of the second dozen varies by state. In-store purchases are limited to two dozen per guest. Online orders for pickup or delivery are limited to one free dozen per customer.

Krispy Kreme has been sweetening Tax Day for three years now, starting with its first promotion in 2022. This offer is likely designed to drive foot traffic to stores and boost morale among those who may be feeling financially stressed during this particular time of the year.

Along With a Tax Day Break, Krispy Kreme Is Also Running a ‘Hoppy Easter’ Promotion

Along with Krispy Kreme’s tax day promotion, the baked goods shop is celebrating Easter with its “Hoppy Easter” selection of doughnuts. The dessert collection showcases a variety of flavors and fun for all shoppers, even those who do not celebrate the holiday. Four doughnuts currently part of the promotion include:

  • Bunny Basket Doughnut: An Original Glazed doughnut dipped in chocolate icing, decorated with chocolate-flavored buttercream, and topped with a confectionery bunny.
  • Marshmallow Bunny Doughnut: An unglazed shell doughnut filled with marshmallow-flavored Kreme, dipped in pastel yellow icing, and topped with a bunny face and confectionery ears.
  • Bouncing Bunny Doughnut: An Original Glazed doughnut dipped in pastel blue icing and sprinkles and topped with a bouncing bunny.
  • Strawberry Iced Doughnut with Sprinkles: An Original Glazed doughnut dipped in strawberry-flavored icing and pastel sprinkles.

Krispy Kreme is a doughnut company and coffeehouse chain best known for its Original Glazed doughnut. The company has a devoted fan base and is famous for its “Hot Now” sign, signaling when fresh doughnuts are coming off the line.

Krispy Kreme was founded in 1937 by Vernon Rudolph in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After purchasing a yeast-raised doughnut recipe from a New Orleans chef, Rudolph began selling his doughnuts to local grocery stores.

As demand grew, customers started requesting the treats hot and fresh from the fryer — sparking the signature Krispy Kreme experience. Today, the brand operates in over 40 countries and partners with major retailers, including McDonald’s, which began offering Krispy Kreme doughnuts in select locations beginning in March 2024.
