Los Angeles Fires: A List of All the Businesses Impacted, & Ways To Help

January 11, 2025

In the wake of the devastating Los Angeles fires, Americans are coming together to help their fellow citizens. Just as they did in the wake of Hurricane Helene back in October 2024, people from all over the country — and, indeed, all over the world — are proving that they are all “Los Angeles strong.” Here’s a current list of businesses impacted by the fires, as well as ways to help.

Los Angeles Fires: Which Businesses Are Affected?

According to Eater, on Jan. 7, several flames started in Eaton Canyon, close to Altadena and Pacific Palisades. The flames later expanded to Malibu due to life-threatening, high-speed winds that swept throughout Los Angeles. The escalating flames prompted Mayor Karen Bass to proclaim a state of emergency for Los Angeles in the evening.

By Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., the Palisades fire had spread quickly to affect around 3,000 acres. Officials issued a mandatory evacuation order extending from Santa Monica’s northern edge to Topanga Canyon and Mulholland Boulevard. Longstanding eateries and bars along its path, such as Reel Inn, Cholada Thai, and Rosenthal Wine Bar, were destroyed when the fire reached Malibu.

Officials announced mandatory evacuations throughout Altadena, La Cañada Flintridge, and the surrounding areas as the Eaton Canyon fire expanded after it was first reported at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mandatory evacuations were prompted by a fire that started in Hollywood and the Hollywood Hills on Wednesday night. However, the flames had been contained by Jan. 9. As of this writing, these Los Angeles fires are still raging, though there are signs that the fires are slowly coming under control due to the hard work of the first responders in the area.

A new round of mandatory evacuations was prompted by the Sunset Fire that broke out in Hollywood Hills on Wednesday, endangering famous sites. By 7:30 a.m. local time on Thursday, fire officials said the fire was extinguished and all evacuation orders had been revoked.

The Hurst fire burned at least 855 acres, while the Lidia fire burned at least 348. As of Thursday, Jan. 9, the Lidia and Hurst fires were 40% and 10% contained, respectively.

The outlet also has a full list of bars and restaurants that have either been temporarily closed or destroyed in the Los Angeles fires. From Altadena to West Hollywood, nearly every neighborhood in the greater Los Angeles area has businesses, restaurants, and retailers impacted by the fires.

How to Help

According to Charted Magazine, Mayor Karen Bass highlighted two ways citizens may help residents impacted by the deadly Los Angeles fires.

Bass said at a news briefing Thursday morning that the public can assist the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation as its personnel battle many fires. Additionally, Bass said, people can donate to the California Community Foundation Wildfire Recovery Fund to help with house repairs and other relief efforts following wildfires.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, posted on their official website that the following groups are also helping victims of the Los Angeles fires:

  • First responders and fire victims are receiving meals from organizations like José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, a longtime partner of The Archewell Foundation.
  • CAL FIRE, the LA Fire Department Foundation, and others are collaborating closely to support firefighters who heroically show up in these high-risk situations to help save homes, families, and communities in need.
  • Compton Cowboys offers emergency horse transportation services, while the Animal Wellness Foundation continues to house and care for animals evacuated due to the fires.
  • 211LA and Airbnb have teamed up to offer displaced people free temporary shelter.
  • Baby2baby is helping families in need by giving them basic items including clothing, diapers, hygiene products, and emergency kits.
  • All Power Books and numerous others remain accessible for emergency usage, providing water and supplies for pickup while putting in endless effort to provide necessities to people in need.
