Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Show: What We Know

June 27, 2024

The Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show is a week away, and fans of the spectacle couldn’t be more thrilled about the prospect.

Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Show: An Annual Tradition

The Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show has been an annual event for New Yorkers, and Americans, since 1976.

In a press release on the Macy’s corporate website, it was announced that the show, which was created, planned, and executed by Macy’s Studios in collaboration with Pyro Spectaculars by Souza, will include live performances in addition to a dynamic display of shells and a variety of effects that incorporate a range of colors and shapes and are matched to a specially composed musical score.

The barges shooting off the fireworks will be positioned along the Hudson River with multiple viewing opportunities in Manhattan between West 14th and West 34th Streets and in New Jersey.

“For millions of Americans the Macy’s Fireworks are a highlight of their 4th of July festivities, and we look forward to seeing the incredible display from the Hudson River this year,” said New York Governor Kathy Hochul, in a statement included in the Macy’s press release. “There’s no better place to celebrate our nation’s independence than in New York, so book your holiday travel now and experience everything our state has to offer.”

New Jersey, too, is excited about the upcoming 4th of July fireworks show. “New Jersey is proud to celebrate Independence Day this year with a dazzling display of fireworks planned in collaboration with our neighbors across the Hudson,” said New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy in that same press release. “For the first time in recent years, Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks will light up our sky above the Hudson River. We are excited to work with Mayor Adams and Macy’s to view the country’s largest Independence Day celebration from our backyard as we commemorate 248 years of nationhood.”

How to Get Free Tickets

Consumers have been concerned about the growing prices of Fourth of July celebrations. Even back in 2005, consumers were spending $2.3 billion on Independence Day celebrations; in 2024, it’s projected that the average American will spend close to $100 per person on meals.

The costs of 4th of July fireworks, however, isn’t a concern, as NYC Mayor Eric Adams has announced that he’s releasing a limited amount of free tickets for proffer.

In an official statement posted on the NYC.gov website, Adams revealed that 10,000 complimentary passes are available for the general public to see the Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks from Manhattan’s Pier 45 or Pier 84 in Hudson River Park. Go to www.nycjuly4.com to find out more or purchase tickets.

“While all New Yorkers will be able to take part in the illumination of our sky at the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, our administration is making sure that 10,000 lucky New Yorkers have an opportunity to enjoy the show with a front row seat,” Adams said in a statement included with the announcement. “We’re making sure everyone has a fair shot at attending one of the city’s most exciting and iconic events. I look forward to joining the thousands of viewers celebrating America’s birthday right here in the Big Apple.”

On Wednesday, June 26th at 10:00 AM, tickets will go on sale. They will be given out according to first come, first served. There will be a two-ticket limit per public person. Those without a ticket will be able to view the fireworks display from anywhere on the West Side Highway.

For those not in the greater New York City area, the 4th of July fireworks will be broadcast live on local NBC stations and will be available for Peacock customers.
