Marvel MTG Crossover: MCU Meets Magic the Gathering
October 23, 2023
In a surprising crossover, Marvel’s iconic heroes will soon be featured in Magic: The Gathering with the release of new “collectible products and tentpole sets” in 2025, announced Wizards of the Coast.
Crossing over with other IPs isn’t new for Magic: The Gathering. The card game recently debuted a Doctor Who-themed Commander set, and earlier this year it released a Lord of the Rings set that even caught the attention of prolific Magic collector Post Malone. Over the years, Magic has also released a variety of smaller, collectible sets inspired by everything from My Little Pony to Bob Ross paintings.
Considering this history, a Marvel-themed set seems like a natural extension of the game, even overdue. With Marvel’s wide array of characters, this collaboration is likely to be Magic’s most significant yet.
While it’s still unclear the extent of this Avengers assembly in the card game, fans can anticipate seeing their favorite characters with thematically appropriate mechanics.
“These tentpole sets will build on the tradition of incorporating beloved fan-favorite characters and elements from world-class brands into Magic: The Gathering,” said Cynthia Williams, president of Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro digital gaming.
