McDonald’s Announces the Return of 4 New ‘Boo Buckets’ in Time for Halloween
October 3, 2024
McDonald’s has announced the return of the iconic “Boo Buckets” in time for the spooky season.
In a press release announcement, it was revealed that the popular Halloween favorite will make its return to fast-food stores nationwide beginning Oct. 15. The Boo Buckets were first introduced in 1986 and have become a popular staple at McDonald’s restaurants since.
The fast-food giant briefly stopped offering the Boo Buckets in 2016, but they made their return in 2022.
This year, however, the customizable buckets are returning in four colors: green, white, orange, and blue. According to the National Autism Association, blue buckets are the unofficial buckets for children on the autism spectrum, though the practice is considered controversial.
Choose the Hamburger Happy Meal, the four-piece Chicken McNuggets Happy Meal, or the six-piece Chicken McNuggets Happy Meal to receive your own Boo Bucket. Each includes a drink and a side of fries or apple slices. Place an order at a McDonald’s restaurant or via the app.
McDonald’s Isn’t the Only Fast-Food Restaurant Getting Into the Spooky Spirit
McDonald’s Boo Buckets are just the latest entry into the fast-food spooky season offerings.
Earlier this week, Burger King announced that it will utilize a tie-in with Addams Family to release a Halloween Whopper with a purple bun. The company launched four new items that clients can experience for a limited time: Wednesday’s Whopper, Thing’s Rings, Gomez’s Churro Fries, and Morticia’s Kooky Chocolate Shake.
“Halloween holds a special place in our brand’s history, and we know our guests look forward to seeing what delicious and kooky creations we come up with each year,” said Pat O’Toole, chief marketing officer at Burger King North America, in a statement accompanying the announcement. “We know The Addams Family also has an affinity for the scarier things in life, so we’re excited to offer fans not one, but four new takes on their favorite BK products this Halloween season with these Addams Family-inspired creations.”
“We did the Ghost Pepper Whopper for two years in a row,” added Zahra Nurani, Burger King’s VP of marketing communications. “Our guests are going to get a nice surprise with The Addams Family partnership.”
