McDonald’s Bets on Chicken for First New Permanent Item in 4 Years, but Fans Are Still Looking for Snack Wraps
April 25, 2025
McDonald’s knows what sells, and it’s chicken. The fast-food giant is revamping a fan favorite as its first permanent menu item in four years, but some fans are still waiting on the return of their beloved snack wraps.
According to a press release, the Golden Arches is banking on the success of its fan-favorite chicken products to help its newest permanent menu item rise to the top. McCrispy Strips are the latest addition to the fast-food giant’s roster, along with a new Creamy Chili Dip.
The tenders are made of 100% white meat, coated with crispy golden-brown breading, and the addition of a bold black pepper flavor. Joining the new strips is a tasty addition: McDonald’s Creamy Chili Dip. Sweet, tangy, and with just the right kick, it’s the perfect match for the crispy, spicy chicken.
“Since stepping into my new role as a leader of the U.S. business this year, I’ve been excited for fans to get to experience our additional chicken offerings,” said Alyssa Buetikofer, chief marketing and customer experience officer at McDonald’s. “The demand for chicken strips has been remarkable to see across the industry, so we knew we had to deliver something so craveable that it was worth the wait. We took our time, listened to our fans and created a product we knew they would crave. And the best part is we’re just getting started.”
“When we introduce a new menu item like McCrispy Strips, we know we have a big promise to fulfill to meet our customers’ expectations,” said Cesar Piña, senior vice president and chief supply chain officer at McDonald’s. “From the farms we source from to how food is prepared in our restaurants, bringing new products to our fans requires collaboration across suppliers, franchisees, and company staff. We hold ourselves to the highest standard and aim to bring fans nothing less than greatness.”
McDonald’s is taking to social media to spread the word about the new menu items. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for more updates on the crispy chicken strips.
McCrispy Strips and its Creamy Chili Dip condiment will be available in all participating restaurants nationwide by May 5.
McDonald’s Customers Want To Know: Where Are the Snack Wraps?
On April 15, McDonald’s teased customers with news that their beloved snack wraps would return to menus nationwide. The fast-food chain posted a mysterious date and news of the menu item’s return on Instagram: “snack wraps 0x.14.2025.” It added, “It’s close. I can feel it. How are you gonna celebrate the snack wrap comeback!!!!?”
While fans were excited about the new McCrispy Strips and Creamy Chili Dip, they had one big question on their minds: When are Snack Wraps coming back? So far, McDonald’s hasn’t shared an official month, leaving fans eagerly waiting for more news.
That didn’t stop customers from heading straight to the comments section on McDonald’s Instagram. Many had plenty to say about the new menu additions.
“Love this BUT we’re looking for the snack wrap date,” wrote one follower. A second agreed, “When for the snack wrap?”
A third customer wondered, “QUESTION! Are these the same as the old Buttermilk Crispy Tenders?” A fourth added, “WE WANT SNACK WRAPS!!! Like wrap them strips up!!!!”
Before the introduction of the McCrispy Strips in May 2025, McDonald’s last added a permanent menu item in the U.S. four years prior with the launch of the Crispy Chicken Sandwich lineup. These sandwiches debuted nationwide on Feb. 24, 2021, and are available in three varieties: Crispy, Spicy, and Deluxe.
This strategic move was part of McDonald’s efforts to compete in the growing fast-food chicken market, offering customers more options alongside staples like Chicken McNuggets and the McChicken sandwich. These newest menu additions reflect McDonald’s ongoing efforts to diversify its menu and cater to evolving customer preferences in the competitive chicken sandwich market.
