September 19, 2024
National Queso Day will take place on Friday, Sept. 20. And in celebration of yet another foodie holiday, various Mexican-style fast-food chains are offering cheesy deals for customers.
National Queso Day Deals
On Friday, Sept. 20, National Queso Day, Moe’s Southwest Grill is giving all dine-in customers a complimentary side or cup of queso per person in addition to a free queso add-on for all entrees at participating Moe’s locations. Since this is an open offer, redemption is not necessary.
Online customers, however, can also partake in the excitement. When using their redeemable, Moe Rewards Members receive a complimentary side dish or cup of queso in addition to a free queso add-on for all meals. The redeemable can only be used once. Additionally, Moe Rewards Members may use their Free Queso Weekend offer at participating Moe’s locations to get one free cup of queso all weekend long.
Moe’s, though, isn’t the only restaurant participating in National Queso Day. Pancheros Mexican Grill is also getting in on the fun and has announced that it’ll be offering its customers a free serving of queso on any entree order.
Bodega Taqueria y Tequila is also offering National Queso Day promotions. On the day of the foodie event, customers can get a free order of chips & queso with the purchase of $25 or more. Just use the code DRIP to get your reward.
Additionally, according to News 12, several local restaurants in and around the New York City area are also participating in the promotion. These restaurants, however, are independently owned and operated. Customers are encouraged to check out their local Mexican restaurants to see if they, too, are participating in National Queso Day.
Exploring the origins of queso transports us to the era of the Aztecs, a prehistoric civilization that flourished in modern-day Mexico. As proficient farmers and dairy producers, the Aztecs used milk from a variety of animals, such as goats, sheep, and cows. They produced a wide range of dairy-based dishes, one of which was a cheese called “queso chihuahua” or “chihuahua cheese,” which is similar to queso blanco (a Tex-Mex invention) in modern times.
Other Foodie Holidays
National Queso Day is just the latest foodie holiday celebrated by Americans. On Wednesday, Sept. 18, folks all over the country celebrated National Cheeseburger Day with various promotions from their favorite fast-food joints.

In honor of National Cheeseburger Day, Whataburger also gave its rewards members the chance to win free food for an entire year. On Sept. 18, loyalty program participants who placed an online or smartphone order for a cheese Whataburger, Patty Melt, or Sweet & Spicy Bacon Burger received an automatic entry into the “Whataburger for a Year” sweepstakes. Redeeming 52 coupons from prize packets that 100 Whataburger customers will get as sweepstakes winners will get you one free Whataburger at participating locations.
Applebee’s also celebrated the gastronomic holiday with a promotion as well.
