New reduced-nicotine cigarettes cleared by FDA

The FDA yesterday gave the go-ahead to 22nd Century Group to bring its Moonlight and Moonlight Menthol cigarettes to market. The products "contain a reduced amount of nicotine compared to typical commercial cigarettes," according to an FDA press release. Although the agency is supportive of products that may have lowered addictive qualities, it warned that "the products share similar adverse health risks as conventional cigarettes."
