Number of Americans filing for unemployment falls to pandemic-era low

The number of Americans filing for first-time unemployment benefits fell to 547,000 last week, the lowest total since the novel coronavirus pandemic hit the U.S. Applications for benefits fell 39,000 from a week earlier.
