OREO Unveils Cherry Blossom Matcha Spring Cookie — But There’s More Than Meets the Bite
April 18, 2025
Just in time to celebrate spring, OREO has unveiled a limited-edition flavor to its line of cookie Thins. But there’s more than meets the bite to this distinct flavor combination.
OREO’s website shared news that the latest addition to the brand’s product line is the Cherry Blossom Matcha OREO Thins cookie. The snack combines the delicate sweetness of cherry blossoms and the earthy richness of matcha.
The company claims the cookie gives dessert fanatics the essence of “a harmonious balance reminiscent of Japanese zen gardens.” However, there is a catch: It’s only available in a small batch via giveaway.
Beginning on May 15 at 10 a.m. PT, the brand will give away 1,000 free packs of this unique Thins flavor. Customers must register on OREO’s website by May 9, 2025, to participate in the giveaway.
Subsequently, those who are picked will be sent an email with a discount code to use at checkout. Customers then only pay for shipping. The estimated shipping charge is $13.
This special release is part of the snack brand’s efforts to innovate and bring globally loved products to American consumers, expanding beyond traditional favorites and tapping into international flavor trends. Although it’s new to the States, this flavor isn’t necessarily new to fans worldwide. The dessert treat originally launched its Sakura and Matcha Thins flavor in Japan in April 2020.
Per Geek Spin, Japan’s Sakura Matcha OREOs feature delicate pink cookies infused with cherry blossom essence. The combination offers a sweet flavor balanced by the earthy bitterness characteristic of matcha.
Originally released in Japan and Hong Kong, these cookies come in beautifully designed packaging adorned with cherry blossom imagery, making them as much a feast for the eyes as for the palate. Their seasonal availability and unique flavor profile have made them a sought-after item among snack food enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
OREO Is Known for Its Limited-Edition Flavors
When it comes to innovation in the snack aisle, OREO is a standout star. Over the years, the beloved cookie brand has built a reputation not just for its classic chocolate and crème combination, but for its ever-growing lineup of limited-edition flavors.
From nostalgic treats like S’mores and Cotton Candy to globally inspired favorites like Green Tea and Churro, OREO never stops surprising fans with bold, creative pairings. These exclusive releases aren’t just fun — they spark buzz, drive interest, and often sell out fast, making them a must-try for cookie lovers and snack enthusiasts alike.
What makes OREO’s limited-edition flavors so irresistible is the way they blend familiarity with unexpected twists. Seasonal flavors like Pumpkin Spice in the fall and Peppermint Bark in the winter bring a festive touch to dessert tables, while collabs with other iconic brands such as Swedish Fish, Peeps, or Brookie-O keep fans curious and engaged.
The Post Malone OREO was released nationwide on Feb. 3, 2025, following a presale that began on Jan. 27. This limited-edition cookie features the brand’s first-ever swirled crème, combining salted caramel and shortbread flavors, sandwiched between one chocolate and one golden cookie. Each cookie is embossed with one of nine unique designs inspired by Post Malone’s music career, including symbols like a sunflower and a butterfly.
Social media plays a huge role in building the hype for these limited-edition launches, with each new flavor launch quickly trending across platforms as fans rush to get their hands on the latest creation. Whether you’re a loyal OREO eater or just in it for the fun, these cookies turn everyday snacking into a flavorful adventure.
For retailers, stocking limited-edition OREO flavors is a smart way to attract attention and drive foot traffic. These buzzworthy cookies often become conversation starters, bringing customers into stores specifically to hunt them down. Each launch is an opportunity to delight customers and tap into the cookie brand’s long-standing fan loyalty.
