Papa Johns and Google Cloud Partner To Supercharge Customer Experience via AI

April 4, 2025

Papa Johns customers’ experience will be upgraded via AI through a partnership with Google Cloud.

According to a press release, Google Cloud has announced an expanded multi-year partnership with Papa Johns aimed at improving the pizza chain’s ordering and delivery experience through the use of artificial intelligence (AI). The collaboration seeks to deliver a more seamless and consistent customer experience both in-store and across Papa Johns’ digital platforms.

This partnership aims to drive key improvements, including increased order frequency, higher-value transactions, lower customer service costs, and enhanced customer satisfaction. The latter will be achieved through a chatbot powered by Google Cloud technology. Ultimately, the collaboration seeks to create more enjoyable and seamless pizza experiences for customers, according to the press release.

“At Papa Johns, our aspiration is to be the best pizza makers in the business. Being the best means we are crafting great pizza and providing every single customer a superior experience along every part of their journey — from ordering to delivery, to our loyalty program,” said President and CEO Todd Penegor.

“Our partnership with Google Cloud will enable us to take personalization to the next level. We’re not just reacting to orders — we’re anticipating our customers’ needs and proactively providing tailored recommendations and offers. This isn’t just about convenience; it’s about creating a truly joyful and personalized pizza experience that builds lasting loyalty,” he added.

Papa Johns Shares the Reasons Why This Type of Technology Will Benefit Customers

The announcement marks the latest shift in the fast-food industry to utilize AI technology as a way to boost sales and customer service and streamline operations.

“PJX will bring together teams from Papa Johns and Google Cloud to elevate the experience of Papa Johns customers at nearly every touchpoint — from the moment they first crave pizza and engage with Papa Johns, all the way to enjoying the first bite of their pizza order,” said Chief Digital and Technology Officer Kevin Vasconi. “By building on our heritage as a tech pioneer in the pizza industry, we are embracing what has always made Papa Johns so well-loved — our commitment to Better.”

Per Reuters, Vasconi added, “The advances in technology are allowing us to do things that we couldn’t do three or four years ago. Some of it is around scalability, some of it is around security, some of it is, quite honestly, around cost.”

Matt Renner, president of global revenue at Google Cloud, added, “Throughout its history, Papa Johns has been at the forefront of technology innovation — and its innovation team understands that AI has the power to transform the customer experience into something truly special. Google Cloud’s portfolio of data, analytics, and AI capabilities is helping Papa Johns deliver proactive, hyper-personalized service that goes above and beyond for its customers, building relationships that will keep customers coming back for more.”
