Pedigree Dog Food Recall Over Pieces of Loose Metal

May 21, 2024

Pedigree’s dry dog food faces a recall over the potential presence of loose metal in its product.

Mars Petcare U.S. issued a voluntary recall for 315 bags of 44-pound Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition Grilled Steak & Vegetable Flavor Dry Dog Food. According to the Food and Drug Administration, the company is pulling this product from store shelves.

The FDA reports a potential presence of loose metal pieces in the bag. They urge consumers to stop feeding the product to their dogs immediately. Mars Petcare also urges pet owners to monitor for any unusual behavior by their furry friends, and contact a veterinarian if their pet has ingested the recalled product.

The affected products’ Best-by Date is March 4, 2025, and the Lot Code is 410B2TXT02. This information can be found on the bottom seal of the bag’s back.

This limited voluntary recall affects 315 bags of products sold by Walmart in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. Walmart also listed the stores where the dog food was sold on its website. Other pet retailers do not appear to have the affected product on their store shelves.

No other Pedigree brand dog foods or Mars Petcare U.S. products are affected or being recalled. The company reportedly is working with Walmart stores in the four specified states to ensure that the affected products are no longer sold in their retail outlets and that they have been removed from inventory.

Pedigree stated on its site for customers to contact Mars Petcare U.S. at 1-800-525-5273 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CST Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST Saturday and Sunday or visit www.pedigree.com/update if they have any questions. Thus far, there have been no reports of pet injury or illness regarding the potentially impacted product.

The brand calls Pedigree food the “number one brand of dog food and treats in the world, feeding more dogs than any other brand.” The company’s Pedigree Foundation has spent the past 15 years helping shelter dogs find their forever homes.
