Peeps maker takes heat for using Red Dye 3 in its candy

Consumer Reports has called on Just Born Quality Confections to end the use of Red Dye 3 in its marshmallow candies. The dye, also known as FD&C Red No. 3 or erythrosine, is approved for use in foods by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA and food manufacturers have come under pressure from groups who point to research showing that Red Dye 3 consumption has been connected to cancer in animals.
