Pilot Partners With General Motors To Install 135 Fast-Charging EV Stations in Its Gas Stops
March 26, 2025
Pilot has officially surpassed a major milestone in its partnership with General Motors (GM) and EVgo, expanding its EV fast-charging network to more than 130 locations across 25 states.
According to a press release announcement, this strategic collaboration brings robust charging infrastructure to Pilot and Flying J travel centers along some of the nation’s busiest highways and interstates, supporting the growing demand for reliable long-distance EV travel.
As of spring 2025, EV drivers can now confidently plan road trips along major routes like I-75 between Michigan and Georgia as well as regional corridors from Minneapolis to Milwaukee, Detroit to Cleveland, San Antonio to Houston, and Dallas to Nashville.
Originally announced in 2022, the Pilot, GM, and EVgo collaboration aims to deliver up to 2,000 charging stalls across 500 locations nationwide.
Each location offers lounges, free Wi-Fi, modern restrooms, grab-and-go food, on-site restaurants, and 24/7 service. Many sites are designed with overhead canopies and pull-through stalls, making them ideal for EV drivers towing trailers.
With EVgo’s high-power chargers offering up to 350 kW, vehicles can recharge in as little as 15 minutes. The network also supports Plug and Charge technology, enabling seamless charging for compatible EV models.
Pilot Isn’t the Only Company Expanding Its Gas Station-Adjacent Offerings
While Pilot is expanding its reach beyond traditional gas station offerings, Walmart is doing something similar with its expansion of Fuel and Convenience services.
The growth of Walmart’s Fuel and Convenience stations underscores a larger trend: Customers seek more value and convenience from a single location. Walmart’s expanding network of Fuel and Convenience stations satisfies their needs, whether they’re picking up groceries or snacks or saving money at the gas pump.
With over 450 sites planned by the end of the year, the retail behemoth is well on its way to becoming a major participant in the country’s fuel economy. Given the retailer’s ability to utilize its scale, physical presence, and membership program, this move is a reasonable step toward preserving its retail supremacy — and now, at the pump.
While much of the retail sector is focused on e-commerce and last-mile delivery, Walmart’s gasoline station development demonstrates the company’s continued belief in the significance of physical sites. Walmart has an unparalleled real estate presence, with over 4,600 locations across the country. Adding or improving Fuel and Convenience stations inside that network enables the corporation to boost the usability of its stores while also strengthening its local market share.
