Pinterest Opens First Pop-Up Store To Showcase Vision for 2024 Trends

December 7, 2023

Pinterest is opening its first-ever pop-up store in New York City to mark the release of its 2024 predictions and vision. Customers will be able to physically shop and experience the biggest trends of 2024 identified by the platform.

For four years now, Pinterest has been utilizing its rich user data to identify the top consumer trends for the upcoming year for a broad range of categories. Its “unique trendspotting model is a blend of art and science that analyses the billions of searches made by more than 480 million people from around the world that come to Pinterest each month to plan what to do, try or buy next.” The platform then uses this data to release an annual trend report, Pinterest Predicts.

Pinterest is the go-to for inspiration and planning for a broad variety of categories ranging from beauty, fashion, and interior design to food and beverage, parenting, and more.

According to Forbes, Sydney Stanback, global trends and insights lead at Pinterest, said, “Ultimately, people come to Pinterest to dream and plan future moments. This planning mindset enables Pinterest to help brands understand what is trending, through a meaningful and measurable shift in consumer behavior that is only expected to grow in the future.”

Users don’t visit the platform to scroll without a goal and kill time. They go to the platform to proactively nurture their inspiration in order to plan and purchase “on theme” and “on trend” in the future.

Pinterest has put itself on the map for its planning and future shopping psyche, making it a useful source of insights for brands, which are becoming more actively present on the platform through stoppable pins and advertising. More than 50% of Pinterest users consider it a platform to shop, and there has also been a 50% rise in user clicks and save on shoppable pins.

To capitalize on these habits, Pinterest has launched its first pop-up store in NYC to both feature its forecasted trends for 2024 and offer a compilation of products related to these trends. Those who aren’t in New York can instead explore the Pinterest Predicts Shop, where consumers can shop trending items through an online store.

The opening of this physical pop-up store is proof of Pinterest’s ambition to present its ability to genuinely predict trends across this broad range of categories, and monetize on it too, while becoming a prominent shopping destination.

The pop-up will last five days and feature plenty of products linked to the 23 trends identified by Pinterest, from heightened cafe culture and jellyfish-inspired home decor to blue beauty and “eclectic grandpa” fashion inspiration.

In 2023, 80% of the trends Pinterest predicted became a reality, so this is a meaningful source of insights for brands and advertisers. Stacy Malone, vice president of global marketing at Pinterest, said, “Advertisers need to keep up with cultural trends, and it is often hard to know what will actually be trending next. Pinterest is here to provide insights into clear purchase intent.”
