Pizza Hut Announces the Debut of the Deep Fried Frog Pizza. Here’s Where You Can Get It.
November 28, 2024
Pizza Hut has had its fair share of interesting menu items through the years, but none have quite been as intriguing as the Deep Fried Frog Pizza. The culinary mashup, however, is only available in a small market. Let’s take a look at the details.
Pizza Hut’s Deep Fried Frog Pizza Is Available in China
According to Fortune, Chinese Pizza Hut restaurants are serving a unique pie that includes two black olives, a hard-boiled egg that has been split in half, and a deep-fried frog. All of this is served on a thick crust with a bed of parsley and crimson sauce. The olives and egg halves are arranged to mimic the amphibian’s eyes.
The protein-rich pizza, known as the “goblin pizza,” was purportedly introduced in association with the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons. The response to the pie on social media was essentially what one could anticipate.

It was called “pure blasphemy” by one Redditor. One person maintained that “whoever made that pizza should go to a gulag,” while another called it a “pizza felony.” Another person said, “I don’t mind frogs, but bones don’t belong on pizza.”
“Stunt foods” is hardly a claim that Pizza Hut has alone. KFC began selling “pink and black burgers” in China a few years ago. Additionally, Burger King sold red hamburgers in Japan.
And they’re not just found in other countries. McDonald’s has served pumpkin-spiced french fries in previous years, and Burger King introduced the Whopperito. Additionally, Pizza Hut began selling pizzas with hot dog-stuffed crust in the United States in 2015, which (perhaps unsurprisingly) didn’t catch on.
Tomato Wine Is Being Sold Stateside
Speaking of stunt foods, Pizza Hut in the United States also has its own offering up for proffer — the “tomato wine.”
Pizza Hut’s Tomato Wine, produced in collaboration with Irvine’s Just Beyond Paradise Winery in Kansas, is crafted from ripe, luscious tomatoes and naturally infused with basil. Each bottle of the adult beverage contains every component needed to make a delicious pizza.
Customers are treated to a blend of fresh herbs and spices, sun-ripened tomato notes, and a faint trace of toasted wood with every taste. According to the press release announcement about the wine, it “delivers a tasting similar to a white wine when enjoyed chilled. Paired with any classic Pizza Hut pizza, including the signature one-topping pizzas that come in the festive Triple Treat Box, the new wine transforms each bite into an unforgettable tasting experience, ideal for any holiday soiree.”
“The holidays are a time for many gatherings, but often the gift of a bottle of wine can feel expected. Why not be the one to bring the pizza party with the gift of pizza wine and a Triple Treat Box designed to ignite fun and conversation,” said Pizza Hut’s director of advertising, Elyse Slayton. “As a brand who has pioneered many firsts in the industry, we took a beloved, classic pairing of pizza and red wine and flipped it on its head as we aim to spark intrigue and create a more memorable holiday pizza party.”
The company announcement further suggests the wine be paired with the pizza chain’s Triple Treat Box. Just in time for the busiest time of year, this beloved restaurant offers a full lunch for just $19.99.
A choice of dessert, breadsticks or cheese sticks (for an additional fee), and two medium one-topping pizzas are included in the package. The dinner is presented in a box with a festive holiday motif.
Adding more than one pizza topping to the Triple Treat Box, pan pizza, and additional cheese all come with an additional fee. Additionally, certain dessert alternatives come with an additional fee. Prices, involvement, and product availability (including special holiday packaging) vary.
