Playa Bowls Expands Growth Potential in Third Quarter

New Jersey-founded superfruit bowl shop Playa Bowls has expanded its growth potential even further in its third quarter.

According to a press release, the company signed 52 franchise commitments and opened 11 stores during the third quarter of 2024. Playa Bowls is further expanding its footprint in established and new markets, including Lexington and Pittsburgh.

The year has shown significant growth as the company continues to expand in the food service industry. Playa Bowls has secured 195 franchise commitments so far this year. Existing franchisees hold 55% of commitments signed.

Jayson Tipp, chief development officer at Playa Bowls, stated in the release, “Our success in 2024 has been remarkable, with over 275 stores nationwide, 75 openings expected this year, and nearly 300 franchise commitments driving our future expansion. We’re excited to bring Playa Bowls to new markets and make our offerings accessible to consumers nationwide driven by industry-leading performance and demand. It’s truly rewarding to see both new and existing franchisees recognize the value of our brand and commit to growing the Playa Bowls family as we expand our presence across the country.”

The company was founded by Abby Taylor and Rob Giuliani after noticing that in surfer culture, versions of superfruit acai and pitaya bowls were commonly consumed. They decided to recreate these recipes with a twist, at home at the Jersey Shore.

Playa Bowls began its journey to becoming a successful franchise in 2014. The first stand was a pop-up on the sidewalk in front of a pizza shop in Belmar, New Jersey.

As word spread of this creative and intuitive pop-up stand, beachgoers began lining up for their products. It was then that the friends carved out their first store and conceptualized what it would look like to take their growing business to the next level.

All bowls are made from one out of six bases: acai, pitaya, coconut, banana, green, and mango. Add-ons include bananas, blueberries, strawberries, flax, and granola.

Today, Playa Bowls continues its growth in the acai bowl industry, offering smoothies, freshly squeezed and cold-pressed juices, and cold brew coffee drinks. New franchise commitments come from the following locations:
