Popeyes Adds Ghost Pepper Sauce as an Option for Chicken Sandwiches

Popeyes is adding its popular Ghost Pepper sauce as an option for its wildly popular chicken sandwiches.

In a press release, the fast-food chain revealed it would now feature its “slow burning, chili-infused Ghost Pepper sauce” atop its classic Louisiana-inspired crispy chicken fillet. The company is calling the new offering “scary good” without being “scary spicy.”

Amy Alarcon, VP of culinary innovation at Popeyes, wrote of the new sandwich topper, “When we were thinking of what flavor would be perfect for our next Chicken Sandwich, the answer was right in front of us. When we launched our wings platform, we used our Ghost Pepper flavor as the base for all of our wings.”

She continued, “Marinated in a dry spice blend before they’re hand breaded and fried to a perfect crunch, our wings are the perfect balance of flavor and fire. We knew this flavor profile was already a fan favorite and crowd pleaser, so why not take it and turn it into a sandwich?”

This natural evolution into different flavors for the Popeyes chicken sandwich comes on the heels of the company’s Golden BBQ sandwich, which it released in may. Opposite of the spice in the new Ghost Pepper offering, the flavors in the chain’s Golden BBQ sandwich are rich, sweet, tangy, and zesty.

This sandwich is topped with Golden BBQ sauce and served on a buttery-toasted brioche bun with barrel-cured pickles. Guests have the option to customize their sandwich with optional add-ons, including a slice of Havarti cheese and Applewood smoked bacon. 

In September, Popeyes also introduced a new promotion, three pieces of chicken for just $5. Popeyes chicken is marinated in the brand’s signature blend of savory Louisiana herbs and seasonings, then battered in a crunchy southern coating and fried to golden brown perfection.

The Popeyes Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich is currently available at all locations.
