Mercedes-Benz, in collaboration with Mastercard, has introduced a groundbreaking in-car payment system in Germany. Drivers can now initiate the fueling process and pay digitally using their fingerprints, eliminating the need for PIN entry or mobile authentication. This service, facilitated through Mercedes pay+, enables the vehicle to function as a payment device, utilizing the fingerprint sensor integrated into the MBUX infotainment system.
This innovative approach not only enhances convenience but also prioritizes security by encrypting transaction data. The technology marks a significant step toward seamless, integrated payment experiences within the automotive industry. Over 3,600 participating gas stations in Germany now support this feature, initially using Mastercard debit and credit cards. Mercedes-Benz plans to expand fingerprint payments to other services and European markets in the near future.
