Progresso Releases Chicken Noodle Soup-Flavored Hard Candy

January 17, 2025

Progresso, a brand known for its delicious soups, is going viral for its new take on hard candy just in time for cold and flu season.

USA Today is reporting that the hard candy is being billed as the “soup you can suck on.” The limited-edition item was released during the height of the cold and flu season, when “most folks flock to the cough drop aisle,” as well as during National Soup Month.

Soup fans “certainly can reach for the real thing if you’re looking for that feeling of a hug in a bowl,” per a press release announcement shared by General Mills, but the drops were designed with comfort and ease of use in mind. On chilly days, the individually wrapped candies are convenient to carry and can be quickly popped on the go.

According to General Mills, the parent company of Progresso, “The best part is you can enjoy Soup Drops anywhere — in the carpool line, during a grocery run, while folding laundry, sitting at the doctor’s office or hiding out under the covers.”

The first batch of hard candies garnered so much buzz that they sold out within hours, per Progresso’s Instagram page. However, a fresh batch will be available on Jan. 23 that will be released nationwide. A can of Progresso Traditional Chicken Noodle Soup is included with every order of 20 drops, which are packaged in a container that resembles the company’s real soup cans. Both cost $2.49 plus 99 cents for shipping.

Progresso Isn’t the Only Company With Candy News

Meanwhile, in other candy news, Mondelez tried to make Hershey’s a purchase offer back in December 2024.

One of the biggest confectionery makers in the world would be formed by the merger of the maker of OREO cookies and the king of chocolate.

Any Mondelez offers would need to receive backing from the Hershey Trust Company, a nonprofit with 80% of the voting power and a history of opposing sales. In reality, the trust would probably consider several proposals from different suitors if it had a significant interest in any transactions.

According to someone knowledgeable about the situation who wished to remain anonymous, Mondelez made a “preliminary approach about a possible combination.”

However, shortly after the offer was made, Hershey’s rejected the offer as “too low,” according to Reuters.
