Quaker Oats Recalls Granola Bars and Cereals Over Salmonella Risk
December 18, 2023
The Quaker Oats Company is recalling certain granola bars and granola cereals over fears the products may be contaminated with salmonella. The recall only applies to specific products, and according to the FDA, no other Quaker products are impacted.
The recalled foods include multiple flavors of Quaker Chewy Granola Bars, Quaker Puffed Granola, and Quaker Simply Granola Cereals. Quaker said it had received no confirmed reports of illness related to the products covered by the recall, according to Today.
The complete list includes the following products: Quaker Big Chewy Bars Chocolate Chip, Quaker Big Chewy Bars Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Quaker Big Chewy Bars Variety Pack, Quaker Chewy Bars and Dipps Variety Pack, Quaker Chewy Bars Chocolate Chip, Quaker Chewy Bars Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and Quaker Chewy Bars Chocolate Chip Holiday Minis.
Also included in the recall are Quaker Chewy Bars Chocolate Chip Halloween Minis, Quaker Chewy Bars Chocolate Chip Spring Minis, Quaker Chewy Bars Chocolate Chip Valentine Minis, Quaker Chewy Bars Dark Chocolate Chunk, Quaker Chewy Bars Chocolate Chunk, and other brands listed on the recall website. The potentially contaminated products have best-by dates ranging until October 2024 and were sold across all 50 states, as well as Puerto Rico, Guam, and Saipan.
The company is asking consumers to check their pantries and dispose of any affected products. The company also said that people who have any of the affected products can call Quaker Consumer Relations at 1-800-492-9322 or visit the Quaker Granola Recall website for additional information or reimbursement.
Salmonella infections can cause serious illnesses in young children, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Those infected with salmonella may have symptoms including fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the bacterial disease can be fatal.
Recently, a salmonella outbreak linked to pre-cut cantaloupe made headlines. That outbreak led to four deaths so far in the U.S. and six in Canada, along with over 100 hospitalizations.
