Quebec is closing non-essential stores on Sundays

Quebec moved ahead yesterday with the first of three planned closures of retail stores designated as non-essential. The Canadian province plans to close most retail stores over the next two Sundays as it seeks to reduce the stress on its overburdened health care system. Charles Milliard, president of the Quebec Federation of Chambers of Commerce, criticized the move. "The last thing businesses need during these difficult times is additional restrictions," he said. "We must leave the choice to businesses to open or close at the time that makes the most sense for them, their employees and their customers."
