    • Dollarama has expanded its operations in Australia via the acquisition of The Reject Shop, the nation’s largest discounter. The deal is worth a reported ~$170 million (via Chain Store Age).
    • Rite Aid has been granted approval from a New Jersey bankruptcy court to shutter 114 of its stores and sell its assets as part of its second bankruptcy proceedings. Closures are set to take place in Pennsylvania, California, New York, Washington, New Jersey, Maryland, Vermont, Connecticut, Delaware, New Hampshire, Idaho, and Ohio (via FOX Business).
    • Puma share prices took a dive in morning trading on July 25 following warnings of a full-year loss from the company. Prior to assessing the impact of tariffs, Puma had predicted an operating profit of $523 million for 2025 (via CNBC).
    • Hasbro may have mitigated its Q2 losses via the comparative strength of its Wizards of the Coast brand. Wizards’ Magic: The Gathering sales grew by 23% during the quarter, setting records with the release of a Final Fantasy-themed set (via BusinessWire).

    • Back-to-school shoppers plan to be extra careful with their spending this year. U.S. consumers polled by ICSC indicated that discount stores were the top choice in terms of BTS shopping destinations, and a striking 28% indicated they would be reusing already-owned school supplies (via BusinessWire).
    • Skechers is being sued in federal court by HandsFree Labs, parent company of ‘hands-free’ footwear brand and retailer Kizik. The suit alleges that Skechers’ Hands Free Slip-ins product infringes upon HandsFree Labs’ patented technology (via Chain Store Age).
