Rita’s Italian Ice Celebrates First Day of Spring With Free Italian Ice Giveaway

Rita’s Italian Ice is continuing its annual tradition of giving away free Italian Ice to celebrate the first day of spring, and the company has also introduced a new flavor for its customers to enjoy.

Per a press release, on Thursday, March 20, 2025, guests will celebrate the first day of spring with a free Rita’s Italian Ice giveaway. Rita’s 575+ outlets are set to give away over 1 million cups of the chain’s distinctive Italian Ice during the celebration.

Guests who visit Rita’s on Thursday, March 20, the first day of spring, will receive a free 6-ounce Italian Ice in their preferred flavor. Guests can choose from Rita’s classic Italian Ice flavors or sample the new flavor, SKITTLES Italian Ice. Inspired by the taste of a “handful of SKITTLES,” Rita’s offers a “colorful collision of fruity flavors.”

We’re thrilled to introduce SKITTLES to our guests, crafted in Rita’s signature style, and welcome everyone to our shops on March 20 for a free cup of Ice on us.”

Rita’s Italian Ice Did the Same Promotion Last Year

Last year, patrons at participating establishments received a free 6-ounce Italian Ice between noon and 9 p.m. Rita’s Italian Ice contributed to the festivities with a first-day-of-spring T-shirt giveaway.

The company also introduced a new candy-based flavor at the time called the Sour Patch Kids Watermelon Ice, which “will be available at Rita’s for a limited time starting the first day of spring, March 19, adding a burst of tangy and tart watermelon to Rita’s diverse menu,” according to the company’s press release.

Rita’s Italian Ice reportedly gave away more than 1 million cups of the sweet treat during last year’s celebration, and there’s a good chance that this year’s numbers will be around the same.
