School meal programs running low on food and workers to serve it

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the disbursement of $1.5 billion in funding to help school meal programs fund food purchases and attract workers. A survey of members by the School Nutrition Association found that 97 percent are concerned about continued coronavirus pandemic supply chain disruptions. Many food manufacturers and distributors have cancelled contracts with school districts as they struggle with demand in other more lucrative consumer and commercial markets.
