‘Shark Tank’ Alum Wins Big at Target With Sustainable Diaper Brand Kudos

August 5, 2024

An alum from the hit television series “Shark Tank” has won big with a Target rollout of their sustainable diaper brand named Kudos.

The hit philanthropic series has introduced some of the most recognizable products in today’s market. Brands such as Scrub Daddy and Squatty Potty first appeared on the show as their creators and fledgling entrepreneurs sought backing for their ideas.

Kudos, founded by “Shark Tank” alum Amrita Saigal, is the show’s latest success story. Saigal has taken on what is typically an oversaturated diaper market by creating a brand that is 100% lined with cotton and made with other degradable materials like sugarcane and trees.

The Kudos brand will debut at Target. Subsequently, the brand will be found in 375 Target locations nationwide

“I am so excited to partner with Target to make history as the first 100% cotton-lined disposable diaper to hit retail shelves,” Saigal said in an interview with CNBC. “It’s just a really big deal for us, especially because Target does not carry many brands.”

“I’m not launching a product that is not at par or better than Pampers,” Saigal explained. “Are there eco-friendly alternatives? Yes, but they don’t perform and when it comes to a diaper, we cannot have something that doesn’t perform. You have one blowout, one leak, your parents are already sleep-deprived. They need things that work. They’re not willing to compromise performance for eco-friendly.”

Saigal’s journey to “Shark Tank” exposure came after attempting to fill out the show’s lengthy application. The brand’s website explains her exciting and exhausting journey to being backed by the show’s shark, Mark Cuban, and celebrity entrepreneur Gwyneth Paltrow with a deal totaling $250K.

As reported by TechCrunch in July, Saigal announced $3 million in new funding, this time with investors such as Precursor Ventures, Xfund, and Oversubscribed Ventures. She said she would continue to grow her company to expand into other diaper products, including adult diapers. However, the goal is to someday create a fully compostable diaper, which would reduce landfill waste.
