SHEIN Raises Prices Seemingly Overnight on Many Popular Products

April 28, 2025

Online discounter SHEIN recently raised prices in anticipation of tariffs on goods coming from China. Reportedly, the company increased prices in several categories from April 24 to 26.

On a sample shopping trip conducted by Bloomberg, SHEIN raised prices an average of 10%, but some categories went much higher. In beauty and health, the price of the top 100 products went up by an average of 51%. An anti-cracking lip balm went from $1.07 to $3, a 180% surge, overnight.

An average price hike of 30% was revealed in the home and kitchen products category, with the biggest markup being a 10-piece kitchen towel set jumping 377%. Toys also climbed about 30%, and women’s clothing went up roughly 8%.

SHEIN has not officially commented on Bloomberg’s findings. However, according to unnamed sources within the fast-fashion retailer, the increases were in direct response to the new tariff policy.

SHEIN and Temu Tariff Reactions

The price hikes come as the company adjusts to shifts in U.S. tariff policy, particularly affecting goods imported from China. Previously, the “de minimis” exemption allowed packages valued under $800 to enter tariff-free. Both SHEIN and its rival Temu built their business models around selling small, low-value products that could be imported without excessive border scrutiny and added fees.

The Trump Administration axed the customs de minimis loophole, which will officially go away as of May 2. Without the exemption, e-commerce platforms like Temu and SHEIN  will now have to either eat the extra duty charges or pass them to customers.

Earlier this year, President Trump announced changes to tariff policy in the U.S. Specifically, tariff fees were increased to 120% on goods coming from China. In reaction to fears that higher tariffs meant higher prices, consumers began stocking up on many items. As a result, both discounters saw a jump in sales.

About two weeks ago, SHEIN and Temu warned shoppers that prices were likely to rise before May 2. Emails went out to customers encouraging them to shop now to avoid price hikes later.

Now, it appears SHEIN has made good on that promise. Of the 43 products Bloomberg added to its SHEIN shopping cart, 30 had price jumps of 10% or more in just two days.
