Smashburger Announces New Jalapeno BBQ Bacon Stack Smash
April 10, 2025
Smashburger has a spicy new menu addition that will leave its fans wanting more.
Per a press release announcement, Smashburger’s new Jalapeño BBQ Bacon Stack Smash is a limited-time innovation inspired by the top three best-selling burgers on the menu. It combines crispy applewood-smoked bacon, fresh jalapeños, sweet and smoky BBQ sauce, and melty American cheese atop a Certified Angus Beef patty. Every mouthful strikes a balance of heat, smokiness, and flavorful richness, making it a must-try for burger enthusiasts.
“At Smashburger, we know our guests appreciate big, satisfying flavors, and the new Jalapeño BBQ Bacon Stack is a celebration of their top picks,” said Jim Sullivan, president of the burger chain, in a statement accompanying the press release. “By bringing together the best elements of our Bacon Stack Smash, Spicy Jalapeño Smash, and BBQ Bacon Smash, we’ve created something bold, indulgent, and uniquely Smashburger.”
Smashburger Is Starting To Gain a Foothold After a Rough Start in New Jersey
Even though the chain is now available (and popular) nationwide, it had a bit of a hard time gaining traction in New Jersey over a decade ago.
In 2011, Molly Catalano, a spokesperson for Five Guys, told The Star-Ledger, “Consumers really want a restaurant that is relatively fast, but also high quality and fresh. Our growth has been fueled by demand.”
So-called better burger businesses had not been enticed to New Jersey at the time due to the perception that the state’s residents had a big appetite. Chains like Cheeburger Cheeburger, Elevation Burger, Five Guys, Smashburger, and Zinburger saw significant prospects as consumers sought alternatives to fast food and high-priced casual dining restaurants.
At the time, Smashburger opened its sixth store in New Jersey at Newark Airport and planned to open five more by the end of the year.
Scott Gillman, CEO of Mascott Corporation, which owns and operates New Jersey Smashburgers, said at the time, “We know there is a great demand for better burgers. We are trying to become the dominant better burger concept in all of northern New Jersey.”
That theory proved correct: according to the chain’s website, there are currently 19 locations in the New Jersey area. Jollibee also acquired Smashburger in 2018.
