Snoop Dogg, Master P Sue Walmart and Post Over Cereal Brand Dispute

February 7, 2024

Rappers Snoop Dogg and Master P have filed a lawsuit against Walmart and Post Consumer Brands. The rappers, through their company Broadus Foods, allege that the two corporate giants concocted a plan to derail their cereal brand, Snoop Cereal.

According to the lawsuit, Broadus Foods entered into a partnership with Post, only for Post to act in a way that prevented Snoop Cereal from reaching customers. The company alleges this was a retaliatory act after Snoop Dogg and Master P refused to sell Broadus Foods to Post. This refusal led Post to create an arrangement allegedly designed to push Broadus Foods out of the market.

Walmart also appears in the lawsuit, accused of playing a significant part in this plot. The claim is that Walmart and Post worked together to ensure that Snoop Cereal would never make it onto Walmart’s store shelves.

Walmart responded by stating that many factors can affect sales, such as consumer demand and price. The retailer has not given a detailed response, as the lawsuit has not yet been formally served to them. Post Consumer Brands is yet to comment on the allegations.

The background to the lawsuit reveals that Snoop Dogg and Master P set up Broadus Foods and launched Snoop Cereal in 2022. Their goal was to diversify the food industry and create a legacy for their families. They proposed a production and distribution partnership with Post, but instead of collaboration, they found themselves facing a buyout offer from Post. They refused this offer.

Despite not securing a buyout, Post agreed to a partnership with Broadus Foods, promising to distribute Snoop Cereal to major retailers such as Walmart, Target, Kroger, and Amazon. However, Snoop Dogg and Master P believe that Post intended to undermine Broadus Foods from the start.

One point of contention raised in the lawsuit was the treatment of Snoop Cereal at Walmart. After initially selling well, the cereal started appearing as unavailable within Walmart’s system. Investigations revealed that multiple boxes of Snoop Cereal were in stockrooms, coded not to be restocked on shelves.

The lawsuit claims that Post breached its agreements with Broadus Foods and acted negligently. It also accuses Walmart of interfering with Post’s scheme and both companies of engaging in a civil conspiracy. These allegations raise serious questions about business practices and ethics within these companies.
