Stocks retreat on fears that U.S. economy will keep still running hot

The Commerce Department's last reading of the year, which tracked the economy between July and September, showed an increase in the gross domestic product (GDP) of 3.2 percent, indicating to Wall Street that the Fed may continue interest rate increases in efforts to tamp down inflation.
